Massage

Featuring traditional Swedish Massage techniques, I provide a relaxing, soothing treatment which works on a spiritual, physical and emotional level to promote healing and inner wellness.

Massage can have the following benefits:

  • Reduces pain and increases range of movement, through gentle manipulation of weak, tight muscles
  • Lessens stress and anxiety
  • Improves circulation
  • Relieves muscle spasms and cramping
  • Releases endorphins — the body’s natural pain killer
  • Improves skin condition, including scar tissue and stretch marks

Soul2Sole offers a variety of massage treatments, depending on your needs and preferences. A treatment can consist of a full body massage (including head and face), or if you rather, you can book just a back neck and shoulder massage. Unscented oils are used during the treatment, and we may also discuss the use of essential oils to enhance the experience.

Full-body massages last 60 minutes and are priced at £40. Back, neck and shoulder massages last for 30 minutes and cost just £25.

Reflexology

Reflexology can be traced back over 5,000 years with the earliest records having been found in picture form on the walls of Egyptian tombs. It was first introduced to the Western world as ‘Zone Therapy’ in the early 20th century by Dr William Fitzgerald, who discovered that using pressure on different points of the hands, feet, face and ears could promote relaxation and pain relief elsewhere in the body, thus improving wellbeing. This was further developed in the 1930’s by Eunice Ingham and became what we now call Reflexology. She noted that congestion/tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.

Reflexology is a holistic treatment, which means we are treating the whole body and can have the following benefits:

  • Overall sense of relaxation
  • Reduction in stress
  • Boost to the immune system
  • Pain relief
  • Increase in energy levels
  • Improved circulation
  • Detoxing
  • Stimulation of the Nervous System

We all lead such busy lives these days and illness, stress, injury or disease can lease to an imbalance in the body, which can cause our energy pathways to become blocked. By applying gentle pressure to specific points on the feet or the hands, we are able to reduce these blockages, thus allowing the energy to flow more freely and enabling the body to better heal itself.

As a holistic practitioner I do not diagnose or prescribe — instead, I look at supporting your wellbeing as a whole person. Everyone is different so it is impossible to know how an individual will react to a treatment. Most people will notice that they feel very relaxed, will sleep better and have an improved mood. Occasionally people report a mild headache, feeling tired or needing to go to the toilet more often. These are all normal reactions and should pass in 24–48 hours as part of the healing process.

During your initial consultation I will take a full medical history, along with some details about your general lifestyle. This will be reassessed at each subsequent treatment. There are some medical conditions where I will need you to seek permission from your GP before being able to proceed with treatment.

Treatment takes place lying down, fully-clothed but with your shoes and socks removed. I will cleanse your feet and then use reflexology wax to facilitate the treatment. I start with a relaxing foot massage and some deep breathing before beginning the treatment itself.

You should allow 50–60 minutes per treatment, including consultation. You can expect your treatments to be relaxing and soothing, but some tenderness may be felt if there are particular areas of congestion.

Reflexology can also be given to the hands with similar benefits. Hand reflexology sessions are a little shorter and are particularly useful if you do not like having your feet touched or are suffering from foot conditions such as Athletes Foot.

A 60 minute Foot Reflexology treatment is priced at £35, with 30 minute Hand Reflexology sessions costing £20.

Pre- and Post-Conceptual Reflexology

Trying for a baby can be an exciting yet stressful time. Reflexology can support both you and your partner through from pre-conception to pregnancy and beyond, whether you are trying to conceive naturally or undergoing IVF treatment.

Calming the body lets go of tension and rebalances hormones which is important both for fertility and during pregnancy. Fertility Reflexology boosts the blood flow to the reproductive organs, regulates the menstrual cycle and encourages ovulation.

Reflexology can safely be used during pregnancy, though my professional preference is to wait until after the first trimester has passed. Whilst there have been relatively few scientific studies, it has been shown that, as well as reducing tension and stress, Reflexology can help with morning sickness, insomnia, headaches, back pain, pelvic girdle pain, swollen ankles and constipation.

After 37 weeks, my treatment includes stimulating certain reflexes in the feet which are connected with labour, to help the body feel safe and relaxed and to prepare for childbirth. Studies have shown that weekly reflexology for the 6 weeks prior to the due date can reduce labour pain and shorten both the first and second stages of labour. The more relaxed you are, the better the birth!

Aromatherapy

Harness the amazing power of essential plant oils!

Aromatherapy uses these essential oils to influence, change in your mind, body and spirit, improving your overall health.

Since the dawn of time, ancient cultures have used plants and herbs for many purposes, including religious, medical and cosmetic. The Ancient Egyptians used Cedar and Myrrh for their antiseptic and antibacterial qualities. Greek soldiers were known to go in to battle carrying an ointment made with Myrrh, known for its healing properties. In Roman times, essential oils were used in public baths and for massage. Looking to Asia, both China and India have a long history of using plants, herbs and their extracts as part of their medical treatments.

There are over 100 different essential oils, all with different benefits! In my treatments, I generally choose just a couple, which are then blended with my chosen base oil. The oil is selected following a detailed initial consultation with my clients.

The chemicals that are found in essential oils have a lot in common with our body’s own hormones. Some of these oils have powerful anti-bacterial and analgesic properties, others have therapeutic qualities that help to relieve stress, depression, insomnia and PMT. Essential oils can be warming or cooling, uplifting or sedative. They can provide benefits to all the different systems in our bodies — skin, skeleton, muscles, circulation, digestion, endocrine, reproductive, and nervous.

Whilst aromatherapy is often practised alongside massage, I often provide aromatherapy blends for my clients to use at home. These can take the form of an aroma stick or roller ball, something you can pop in your pocket and reach for when you need a little lift or to quieten your mind.

A particular speciality of mine is the clinical use of essential oils in the palliative care environment. In my volunteer work at local hospices, we regularly make use of aroma sticks, mixing blends to help patients with stress, insomnia, grief, pain, nausea or even to stimulate their appetite.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage, also known as Champissage, is based on the ancient Hindu system of Ayurveda (translated as the science of life) which has been practised in India for thousands of years. The techniques are used at weddings and births, and it is even common for new babies to receive head massage.

The massage is, in itself, a very pleasant and relaxing experience. But in addition to the physical benefits, the use of acupressure massage on the head, face, neck and shoulders aims to rebalance the body’s energy, promoting wellbeing on an emotional level. Indian Head Massage has also been known to have a positive impact on hair and scalp condition due to the stimulation of hair follicles, which can increase the production of natural hair oil.

The massage treatment lasts for 30 minutes and is performed seated and fully-clothed (light, loose fitting clothing is advisable). A treatment begins at the back of the neck and shoulders, as this is where we tend to hold a lot of our tension. I then move upwards to the head and scalp, finishing with a gentle face massage using an aromatherapy blend.

In addition to being extremely relaxing, Indian Head massage can also help with the following:

  • Recurring headaches, migraines and back/neck pain
  • Sleeplessness & insomnia
  • Anxiety & depression
  • General energy Levels

A 30 minute Indian Head Massage session costs £25. Get in touch to book your first session.

Baby Reflex

Baby Reflex is a series of specially adapted Reflexology Techniques designed to increase bonding between parents and babies.

Originally developed by Jenny Lee, MCSP MAR, a Chartered Physiotherapist and a qualified Reflexologist who carried out several pilot research studies in conjunction with GPs to examine the effects of Reflexology treatments on asthmatic children. The results clearly demonstrated that these techniques reduced asthma, improved sleep patterns and led to a greater ability to relax, with an improved ‘quality of life’.

Baby reflex works in the same way as adult Reflexology, but is specially adapted to suit the particular needs of small babies, with a feather light touch being used. Once learned by the parent, Baby Reflex is easy to use: treatments can be performed any place, any time — it will take no longer than 5 minutes, and can be practised up to 3 times each day.

This research led to the creation of a set of techniques that could be passed on to parents to use with their own babies.

Baby Reflex can have the following benefits:

  • Calming & relaxing
  • Improving sleep patterns
  • Boosting the immune system
  • Help with congestion, coughs and colds
  • Improving digestive function, colic and constipation
  • Help with teething pain and distress
  • Improving general wellbeing
  • Increasing parent-child bonding

Over 3 sessions, I teach Baby reflex to parents, grandparents, or carers of babies over 4 weeks old. These sessions are divided into: Feeding & Digestion, Sleeping & Calming and Wellbeing (which includes pain relief for teething and boosting the immune system).

Workshops are either taught 1:1 in your own home or in small groups at the Positive Health Therapy Centre in Borough Green. Parents can either practice on each other or on supplied ‘dolly feet’. You will also receive a handy guide to take away as a reminder of the techniques you have learned.
